Santa’s Letters

This Christmas, The Children's Foundation are giving Santa a little helping hand delivering his letters. This year, we are adding more personalisation and a little sweet treat! Watch the truly magical moment as our Santa's letter lights up your child’s face for a minimum donation of £5. We can also send a joint letter for more than one child. For more information or for an application form, email Courtney.wallace@nuth.nhs.uk

The Children’s Foundation supports children and young people in the North East and North Cumbria to overcome distress, disability and disadvantage. The charity was set up in 1990 and supports and manages projects across a broad spectrum of activities, particularly those that deal with some of the more challenging areas of children’s and young people’s health.

Our projects include:
  • Therapeutic Horticulture projects in schools in North Tyneside, Newcastle and Sunderland. Offers groups of young people with ASD or learning difficulties and complex needs the chance to undertake a level 1 City and Guilds qualification in practical horticulture.
  • Clown Doctors is an innovative programme offering hospitalised children opportunities to take part in artistic play. It aims to relieve them of fear and insecurities and to empower the children to understand and come to terms with their situation at a traumatic time in their lives. The Children’s Foundation funds the Clown Doctor programme at The Great North Children’s Hospital, Sunderland Royal Hospital and University Hospital of North Durham. Over the past two years, they have interacted with over 2,000 children, siblings and their families.
  • Our annual Stars Awards aim to celebrate the achievements of children in the North East with a disability, their friends and families.
  • We have teamed up with Mythical Mechanical Monstrous Masterclasses (4M) to run Mental Health Educational Workshops in schools. 4M deliver 2-hour workshops about anxiety, depression, self-harm and help (using puppets to represent each issue and to act as the teachers of the session), in hope to increase children’s engagement with these topics, deliver key information about them and create opportunities for active participation from the children.
  • We also fund the installation of V-Pod pain distraction units on children’s wards which are used to relieve pain and distress in children who are undergoing routine but unpleasant medical procedures.
  • Our Regional Small Grants programme supports community projects that benefit children and young people in the North East area, in line with our aims and objectives. Grants awarded are up to a maximum of £1,000.
We rely on our amazing volunteers and fundraising from events such as the Great North Run and Take £25 Business Challenge to continue supporting and helping children in the local area. Our Christmas projects such as our wrap stands in Eldon Square and the Bridges, carol singing and Santa’s Letters are some of our biggest fundraisers and are vital to continuing the amazing work we do in the region.
