Mrs Mulled Wine Christmas Countdown - 9 weeks to go

There are just 9 weeks to go now! I've been dreaming a little bit about luxury Christmas experiences this week. You can take a Christmas lunch trip on the Northern Belle (the UK's version of the Orient Express) this year direct from Newcastle and it sounds very indulgent. Pretty pricey but it does include a lot - Champagne, wine, a 7 course meal and entertainment. I have a December birthday and would love to treat myself to this one year (will probably wait until the kids have grown up though). You can find out more and book here.

I've also been obsessed with booking festive afternoon tea at The Ritz. Steve and I enjoyed Afternoon Tea at the Ritz a few years ago and it's one of those experiences which is absolutely worth the money. We always said we'd return with the kids. I've left it too late to book now as all of the weekend dates have been taken but I am definitely going to get in there early and book next year when the dates are released. Again, it's very expensive (£80 per adult and £50 per child) but a real treat that you'll probably only do once. There's a Christmas choir, champagne for the grown-ups and all children are gifted an exclusive Ritz Christmas Teddy Bear. It sounds wonderful! You can find out more and book online here.

Christmas at Fenwicks

Christmas at Fenwicks is a big deal up here in the North East and this year looks like it's going to be better than ever. My friend Mandy has already had a nosey around their Christmas department along with strong suspicions of what this year's window theme is going to be. I always live in hope that all of the theming in-store is a decoy and the window will actually be something completely different. Time will tell! So far Fenwick has released details of their Santa Rooftop experience, Santa Cinema and Movies on the Rooftop. My friend kindly bought us tickets to visit Santa on Fenwick Rooftop and we're visiting in two weeks on opening weekend - I am SOOOOO excited, probably more so than the kids. I'll share a blog review of the experience over on North East Family Fun so keep your eyes peeled for that one.

Christmas Village Newcastle

Newcastle has really lacked a decent Christmas Market compared with other UK cities in recent years and I really hope that our new Christmas Village in Times Square lives up to expectations. We usually have a festive day out in Newcastle and we'll definitely be heading to the Christmas Village to try ice skating, have a ride on the carousel and enjoy a mulled wine and hot chocolate. You can find out more about the Christmas Village here.

I'm also super excited that Hadrian's Tipi has re-opened for the festive season in Newcastle. You can find Hadrian's Tipi in STACK opposite Tyneside Cinema just off Northumberland Street. We love visiting Hadrian's Tipi for festive drinks and can't wait to pop in soon.

I popped to Olives at the Station with Steve for a quick drink this week and was tempted by their Gingerbread Vodka. I am definitely not a vodka drinker but I wanted to try something new. I asked what they'd normally serve it with and was advised to try lemonade or tonic. I went with lemonade and it was honestly so lovely. I'm now going to buy some gingerbread vodka for home this December - makes a change from Baileys. You can buy (affiliate link) The Lakes Gingerbread Vodka online here.

Toy Sales

Sainsburys Toy Sale is now live (available until 23 October). There are some fab savings to be had - check out what's available here. The Debenhams Toy Sale is also worth checking out - big name brands such as Imaginext and VTech are included. Find out more here. I started my Christmas shopping this week and bought the kids all new swimming kits including bags, towels and swimwear. Got to love a practical gift!

Good Christmas Reads

As we approach the festive season, I'll be able to share much more 'new' articles in this post as more people will be writing about Christmas but for now, here's the best of the web so far:

That's all for now - I'll be back next week with the best Christmas news. Tweet me @mrsmulledwine if you spot anything worth sharing.

  2. I am LOVING these weekly Christmas posts, they make my Sunday! OMG luxury Christmases, one year I would LOVE to book a proper Christmas break in a lovely hotel like Wynyard or Jesmond Dene House! Imagine waking up somewhere like that on Christmas Day!

Don't get me on the subject of Fenwick's Christmas efforts this year .. moving on ... LOL!

VERY excited about the Christmas Village (thanks for reminding me about it, going to stick the opening date in my diary!) ... really really hope it's something special. Our Christmas market is always a bit of a let down (wish we had something as good as Manchester!)

Simon popped into Costa the other day and was quizzing them about the Orange and Cream Hot Chocolate and they were denying all knowledge! So strange!
