Mrs Mulled Wine's Christmas Countdown - 2 weeks to go

Eeek! 2 weeks to go. I finally feel on top of my Christmas shopping with a successful trip to intu Metrocentre on Monday and North Shields Christmas Market this weekend. If you've never been to North Shields Christmas Market before, I'd highly recommend checking it out next year. There are over 100 local traders and all the best ones seem to go here. From local ales and distilleries to The Brownie Bar, Geordie Bangers, Homemade Jam and Chutney Stalls, the best pies, homemade wreaths for sale, sweet stalls, Christmas cakes and lots and lots of Christmas treats, it's such a good place to support our local businesses. Entry is free and there's a funfair for kids (£2 per ride), Alpacas to stroke and feed, birds of prey to meet, Elf crafts in the shopping centre and food vans (including churros, hog roast, Hadrian's pizza and a mobile gin bar). It's loosely Victorian themed and a lot of th traders dress up and they're all super friendly,

How hard is it to make your own wreath for Christmas?

Disclosure: House of Botanics organised a blogger event and helped us to create our own wreath free of charge. They did not ask for any coverage.

How hard is it to make your own wreath for Christmas? - final wreaths

I have always wanted to make my own Christmas wreath so was delighted when House of Botanics organised a blogger event and asked me to go along and have a go. House of Botanics is the most gorgeous florist and plant shop in STACK Newcastle (facing Tyneside Cinema, just up from YOLO Coffee). Owner Naomi has years of experience, is knowledgeable and very customer-orientated. A personalised service is at the heart of everything they do here and if you're looking for a special gift or Christmas wreath/plant/bouquet of flowers this Christmas, I'd highly recommend popping in. I noticed gifts for sale from just £2.

Mrs Mulled Wine's Christmas Countdown - 3 weeks to go

Only three weeks to go! My pre-Christmas stress seems to have melted away a little this week. I'm not putting too much pressure on myself, haven't packed too much into my diary, I'm cutting down on work and I've spent a lot of time watching Christmas Movies. I hope after Monday (my Christmas shopping day) I'll feel a lot more organised and prepared too.

Mrs Mulled Wine's Christmas - 4 Weeks to Go

Black Friday - Is it a con?

I've heard a couple of 'experts' on the radio saying that Black Friday is a con trying to whip consumers up into a shopping frenzy and there actually aren't that many bargains to be had and I honestly feel like I have to agree. I'm after a Nintendo Switch and the cheapest price I could find a new one at on Black Friday was £237.99 down from £249 the day before. I am pretty confident the price will drop even further at some point in the run up to Christmas. I reckon retailers drop their prices a little on Black Friday to make us feel like we're getting a good deal but actually save their best deals until nearer Christmas when they're trying to tempt people with big last-minute purchases. The only deals I think were decent were travel and hotel deals where you could buy vouchers for 20% off etc...

Did anyone grab a good deal? I didn't buy a single thing in the end.

Mrs Mulled Wine's Countdown to Christmas - 5 weeks to go

Just over five weeks to go and I am finally feeling festive. We're enjoying a relaxing weekend at home this weekend before the craziness of Christmas really starts. Can you believe we're off to our first panto next week? It's my birthday weekend in a couple of weeks time and I have lots of fun stuff planned including a Christmas dinner at Artisan and festive afternoon tea at Spanish City. Most of my festive outings tend to revolve around food these days.

Mrs Mulled Wine's Christmas Countdown - 6 Weeks To Go

I hope you didn't miss me too much last week. We had a very full-on half term and now the kids are back to school, I am very much on Christmas countdown (despite only buying one gift so far). I've pledged this year to only buy our grown-up gifts from a charity close to the recipient's heart or a small or local business this year and I'm looking forward to spending more at Christmas markets this year. A sale to a small business or charity really does make a difference and its just a little way to spread some Christmas cheer. Also, who wants another Boots gift set?

How to Create a 'Snowman' Christmas Eve Box

How to Create a 'Snowman' Christmas Eve Box

Everyone loves The Snowman and if you're from the North East, you'll no doubt know that this year, Fenwick has based their Christmas window around this much-loved character. I have a feeling that gifts based around The Snowman will be popular. Heidi has already been hinting that she'd like a Snowman soft toy for Christmas. I had the idea to create a Snowman-themed Christmas Eve box this year. Obviously, I won't include everything from this selection but a couple of select items will give the box a theme and add a personal touch for 2018 I think. Plus its something a little different.

Mrs Mulled Wine's Christmas Countdown - 8 weeks to go

I'll begin this post by saying that there may not be a Christmas Countdown next week. It's half term this week and we're travelling all over so I'm not sure I'll have time to write anything. If there isn't a post next week, I'll be back the following week with double the news to share.

Mrs Mulled Wine Christmas Countdown - 9 weeks to go

There are just 9 weeks to go now! I've been dreaming a little bit about luxury Christmas experiences this week. You can take a Christmas lunch trip on the Northern Belle (the UK's version of the Orient Express) this year direct from Newcastle and it sounds very indulgent. Pretty pricey but it does include a lot - Champagne, wine, a 7 course meal and entertainment. I have a December birthday and would love to treat myself to this one year (will probably wait until the kids have grown up though). You can find out more and book here.

20 Fortnite Christmas Gift Ideas

All of the links in this post are affiliate links

If you have a school-aged child, no doubt you'll have heard about Fortnite. As one of the biggest games of 2018, tweens and teens everywhere can't seem to get enough. I'm not exactly the biggest advocate of Fortnite. My three do play Fortnite but it's only once every week or so but I would say due to peer pressure, they're still massively into Fortnite merch and would be delighted with any of these gifts under the tree.

Mrs Mulled Wine's Christmas Countdown - 10 weeks to go

Welcome to my new weekly countdown to Christmas column. I'm aiming to publish a countdown post every Sunday and share the week's best Christmas news, posts and events. Grab a cuppa and let's dive straight in....

Now is the time to order your M&S Christmas spread

Marks and Spencer are now taking Christmas food orders. This is a bit of an annual tradition for us - you just can't beat an M&S spread. If you order before 11th November you'll receive a free bottle of wine or box of chocolates with your order too. In previous years, we've only had to pay a £25 ish deposit and pay the balance on collection. I haven't actually placed my order yet but I'm pretty sure it will be the same kind of system this year too. We always opt for an early morning collection time to beat the traffic. You can browse the full selection on offer here.  My top picks include this Cornish Cruncher Cheese and Cider Bake, we ordered it last year and absolutely loved it. We'll be re-ordering this year along with the sausage roll garland which is a bargain at £8 and makes a good centrepiece. Jack is obsessed with pine cones so we can't resist these chocolate pine cones. Let me know if you'll be placing and order and if you have any recommendations.

Amazon's Top 10 toys for Christmas 2018

*The links in this post are affiliate links

Amazon's Top 10 toys for Christmas 2018

Amazon has released it's Top 10 toys for Christmas 2018. There is some tat on this list (hello Unicorn which poops rainbow slime) but also some decent toys on the list. I've had a look through the list and some of these gifts already have a 1-4 week dispatch time. My advice would be, if you think your children would like any of these toys, to order ASAP. Now that Toys R Us is no longer a thing, it's going to be trickier than ever for those of us who like to leave it to the last minute. I am tempted by the Interactive AI robot, the Harry Potter LEGO Hogwarts Express (which is actually on sale for a decent price I think) plus the Little Live Pets Una Wrapples. Let me know if you'll be buying anything from this list this year.

11 ways to still have a magical Christmas when your children are too old for Santa

Visiting Father Christmas has always been such a big part of Christmas for us and it's something I always look forward to. So what happens when your children out-grow this tradition? Nothing really prepares you for it and it just kind of happens. You never visit Father Christmas and think at the time 'this may be our last time'. As a warning to other parents, I feel this happens when your children reach the age of 9/10. Harry is almost 12 now and he didn't visit Father Christmas at intu Metrocentre with us last year and I this year I've booked to visit Father Christmas at Alnwick Garden without him. If it wasn't for the fact that Heidi and Jack have a little cousin to enjoy this experience with now, I reckon they'd not be far behind Harry.

Christmas Eve Box Ideas for a One Year Old

*Post contains affiliate links

I love creating a Christmas Eve box and for me, it's one of the most magical parts of Christmas. They aren't for everyone and if you don't like them, this isn't the post for you. If however, you are looking for a few ideas for putting together your first Christmas Eve box this year, then read on. The idea is, an elf will leave your child a special box with some special treats with a little bit of magic to keep your children entertained on Christmas Eve (at least that's the story in our house).

5 of the Best Christmas Planners for 2018

*This post contains affiliate links

Eeek I am SO excited to be sharing my first Christmas post of 2018. I plan my life using my mobile phone but when it comes to Christmas, I love to use pen and paper and like to treat myself to a new Christmas planner. I tend to buy the Cath Kidston one and I love this year's townhouse design.
